You turn off your morning alarm, brush your teeth, and hop into the shower. As you begin to shampoo your hair, you notice you’re standing ankle-deep in water — what should you do? First, rinse the soap from your eyes. Then it’s time to figure out what is causing the clog in your bathtub drain!
What is Causing My Bathtub Issues?
It can be frustrating using a bathtub that refuses to drain, but never fear! There are a few ways to remove the blockage and get the kids back into their bath time routine in no time.
Drain Stopper
The stopper can be adjusted according to the amount of water you’d like to keep in the bathtub. Occasionally, this stopper can get stuck in a position where it will keep the water from draining or it will only allow for very slow draining.
Jiggle the stopper around to see if it’s stuck in a bad position. You can even use pliers to gently encourage it out of the drain. Clean the stopper of any buildup or hair, and your draining problem may be solved!
Pipes
The pipes in our bathroom see a lot more than water. Soap, hair, dirt, shaving cream, and cleaning products all flow down the drain and have the potential to solidify and build up to create a bad clog. There are a few ways you can attempt to clear a bathtub clog:
- Plunging. Plunge the bathtub drain to encourage the clog out of the pipes.
- Baking Soda & Vinegar. Attempt to clear the clog by pouring baking soda down the drain followed by white vinegar. Allow it to fizz and sit for a few moments before washing down with hot water.
- Call a professional. If your clog seems to be too stubborn for the methods above, we encourage you to call a professional to take care of it safely and effectively.
